Ballad of Ross MacLochness and Denny Upham…

Yesterday, I discovered a rough edit of some footage of the final band practice with Jon and Steve. It dates back to December last year, when Jon had just announced that he was moving to Panama, which of course left me having to replace him in the band (and subsequently Steve too).

We had one final practice (which was actually after about 6 months of inactivity) and were going to play one last time together at a party. Sadly that didn’t happen since Steve got stuck abroad and couldn’t get back in time. I think it was the whole ash cloud thing. Or maybe he was actually denied entry for a bit for looking a bit too shifty…

Anyway, this is a short film of that final practice. A line drawn in the sand, marking the end of that period of Adam Boucher and The Dead Set. But hey, enough of my yacking, whaddaya say? Let’s boogie…

A Farewell To Harrington – Live in Brighton

Another video from the Brighton gig. Possibly the fastest this song has been played live so far. That’s not to say that it’s all that fast and we’re unlikely to morph into a speed metal outfit anytime soon, but y’know.

Exceptions – Live in Brighton

Here’s a video of Exceptions from the Dead Set’s first gig, in Brighton a few weeks ago. I uploaded it for the band to see but given the poor quality (my camcorder struggles in dark conditions) I wasn’t originally going to share it with everyone. I might delete it at some point, especially as the band will no doubt get better and this will wind up seeming a bit rubbish in comparison. I think we sound pretty damn good for such an early performance though so I thought I’d post it. This video also features a brief special guest appearance from Jaquima the dog, who overshadowed the entire gig by being a bit too cute in her quest to eat Barry’s (Oxygen Thief) pizza.

Anyway, for now, enjoy:

Baiting the public…

I’ve only recently discovered Fucked Up (I’m often late to discovering great music), but I totally love them and you should to. Their new album ‘David Comes To Life’ is seriously good. Do yourself a favour and check them out (if you haven’t already of course) – davidcomestolife.com

Shit sandwich…

Here’s a video to cheer you up on an otherwise dull Monday at work. Witness some behind the scenes footage from the recording of Frank Turner’s new album, including me rightly being called a motherfucker. Thanks Frank!

On bass… Derek Smalls. He wrote this…

Greetings Internet. It’s finally time for me to introduce you to the lovely musicians who join me to make up the new version of Adam Boucher & The Dead Set. Yay!

Everyone say a virtual hello to Naomi on bass and Johnny on drums.

Naomi has been a friend for ages and we previously played in a not-very-good-but-fun-for-a-bit garagey rock band together. Her main musical endeavour is the awesome Naomi Hates Humans and she can also be found partaking of lots of side projects like Mothers Opposed To The Occult and Baby Streuth.

I have the lovely Mike Only to thank for putting me in touch with Johnny. As well as now drumming in The Dead Set he plays in the rather excellent Will Tun & The Wasters. Go check them out. He also currently lives in Reading, but has an incredibly sunny disposition despite this.

The band is sounding fucking great so far and we played our first gig together on Thursday and I have to say it went even better than I could have hoped. The previous Dead Set line-up rehearsed for quite a while before gigging. This new line up had just two and a bit practices, but we still managed to pull off a pretty decent set at The Cobblers Thumb in Brighton. Definitely the best we’ve played so far in our short time as a band. Stay tuned for more info and hopefully more gigs. In fact, if you fancy booking us, do get in touch.

Finally, I should say a massive thanks to Jon and Steve for all their efforts in the previous version of the band. Prior to us jamming I was pretty resolutely against having a band for my solo stuff and now I can’t really imagine not having one. You may have noticed that they still appear in the banner at the top of the site. That’s because there aren’t any pictures of the new line up yet. I await one of them bitching about using their likeness without permission or other such tripe! And to that I say, bring it bitches!

Seriously though, there wasn’t a single crap moment playing in a band with them and the highlight had to be our tour with Dave Hughes. We played to practically nobody, made no money and had the best time ever. Keep an eye out for them in the ‘Behind The Music’ episode in years to come!
